Derek Kearney


Mr Derek Kearney graduated in 2007 from Ulster University with a First Class Masters Degree in Renewable Energy, and is currently working on a PhD in the area of wind energy.

He is a lecturer in the College of Engineering and Built Environment at Dublin Institute of Technology and is a lecturer for the MSc courses in Energy Management, Sustainable Electrical Energy Systems and Sustainability, Technology and Innovation. He is also programme manager for the BSc in Electrical Services and Energy Management. His principal area of specialty for both teaching and research is in the area of renewable energy and energy conversion systems. Recent achievements include winner of the 2006 President’s Award for Teaching Excellence out of a field of over 1000 lecturers. He was chairman of the Honours Degree in Electrical Services and Energy Management for three years and previously worked on mainland Europe for a number of years and is currently participating in two European research projects: ZuHause 3 and USE Efficiency.
