Dr. Mick Mc Keever

Dr. Mick Mc Keever has been a lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering and Build Environment in DIT for over 15 years. His qualifications include an undergraduate honours degree in Engineering from DIT, a research Master’s Degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Trinity College Dublin and a PhD degree in Thermal Process Pilot Plant design from DIT.  Between research degrees he worked in the Oil and Gas industries on power generation and gas compression systems. As part of his applied research in DIT, Mick was the Chair of the European Science Foundation COST Action TU0802 for two years, which focused on the integration of Phase Change Materials in thermal energy storage with renewable energy systems. He is currently supervising PhD students in the area of thermal energy systems.  He provides energy consultancy services to Irish start-up companies developing energy product prototypes.   He has filed two product patents in the field of thermal energy storage and is the founder of Warmer Wedge Ltd, a DIT spin-out company manufacturing PCM heat batteries for domestic hot water tanks.  He was the principal investigator on the International Energy Research Centre funded project from 2011 to 2014 in which Mick and his team developed a patented PCM thermal storage unit with four PCM storage units connected to a micro-CHP in an office building in CIT which demonstrates the technology at full scale.
