Biography

Wayne Doherty is a PhD research student based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Dublin Institute of Technology. He is conducting his research as a member of the Traditional and Sustainable Energy Research Group at the Dublin Energy Lab. His PhD research, supervised by Dr. Anthony Reynolds and Dr. David Kennedy, is on advanced power generation technologies, namely biomass gasification integrated with solid oxide fuel cells. The aim of the work is to investigate the feasibility of such a system through computer modelling, economic and exergetic analyses. His research interests include: Applied Thermodynamics, Modelling and Computer Simulation, Renewable Energy Technologies, Gasification, Fuel Cells and Combined Cycles.

Wayne graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2006 with a First Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of Engineers Ireland (IEI) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Prior to commencing his PhD research he worked at Moffett Engineering Ltd., a leading truck mounted forklift manufacturer based in Dundalk. He is also a member of the Reserve Defence Forces.
