Research projects

electrical power

The electrical power research group (EPRG) is a dynamic mix of people with research expertise, academic expertise, and industrial expertise. This highly motivated group with international mix of personnel is at present working in the following areas:

  • analysis of network unbalance with high wind energy penetration
  • anti-islanding and distributed generation
  • grid-tie inverters
  • intelligent electronic transformer
  • investigation of the effects of phase unbalance on the performance of distribution connected wind generators
  • network constraints in transmission networks with significant wind generation capacity
  • network integration of micro generation technologies
  • power quality monitoring and analysis
  • power quality issues in relation to wind energy integration
  • power signature analysis
  • smart grid technology platform
